Pen Potions and Restoration

Pensbury Manor has been bringing high quality “ethical” pen re-finishing and restoration aid products to pen restorers for over 2 decades.  We call our liquids “Potions”.  Beginning with Pen Potion No.9 Black Hard Rubber Dye, in 2003, our product line has expanded only when and if we discover “potions” that pass our discriminating standards.  Today we offer Pen Potions #7, #8,  #9 and #10 as shown below. ETHICAL DISCUSSION ABOUT RESTORATION

The choice to restore any antique object should not be taken lightly.  Some antique and vintage items including Fountain Pens may be of considerably higher value if left in their original, aged, with respectable “patina”, condition.   If you have any concern about whether the item you are considering restoring is going to suffer a loss in value by being refinished, do not restore that item. However, there are many wonderful daily writers that will never become the most prized among collectible, investment grade pens, yet they bring pleasure to their users.  The outward appearance of these delightful instruments however may need a boost so they are more “presentable” in public and more pleasurable to use.

PEN POTION KIT

You never know when you will need one or another of the potions? WHy not be prepared? We’ve created a kit of all currently available pen potions at a considerable savings over individual potion purchases. Or you can order the individual potions.

PENSBURY MANOR PEN POTION No.7 “PEN-A-TRATE

Originally, Pensbury Manor Pen Potion No.7 was developed as an aid to remove “frozen” sections from Wahl-Eversharp Deco Band Pens with aluminum liners.  The aluminum in these pens in contact with the steel section covering in the friction fit area, where aluminum oxide has formed. This is a very gritty and difficult to remove material that makes section removal nearly impossible.  After several years of formula research and blending Pensbury Manor Pen Potion No.7 was created and has proven to be an effective , “pen-friendly” solution with general usefulness in many other difficult pen parts separation situations.  It can be very useful in freeing stubborn screw-on sections and many stuck pen plungers as well.Pensbury Manor Pen Potion No.7 is a clear liquid used to penetrate the smallest of friction fit and screw fit surface interfaces, lubricate the friction fit area making the separation of parts easier and less prone to damage.  Many Plastics, Hard Rubber, Metal and other pen materials become stuck together due to oxidation, shrinkage, or interlocking shape conformity.  Removing sections and other pen parts, even with the application of heat, can not always be accomplished without the use of excessive force to get them apart.  This can lead to irreparable damage as the force required often proves greater than the strength of the parts involved.  The use of Pensbury Manor Pen Potion No.7 greatly reduces the need for such force, reducing the chance of damage.  After use, in many cases parts can often be separated by hand.  The convenient dropper top bottle makes application a snap.

Black Hard Rubber Re-Blackener

Now you can bring back the deep black color and  luster your black hard rubber pens and pencils once enjoyed by using Pensbury Manor Black Hard Rubber Pen Potion No. 9 to re-blacken the oxidized, faded and browned out color that time and exposure to the elements has caused.  It uses the very coloring agent that was used when the pen was originally made.  Pensbury Manor Black Hard Rubber Pen Potion No. 9 is a dye that penetrates the rubber surface “pores” and bonds with the original rubber in a most satisfactory way.  It is a water based, black liquid dye that bonds with rubber but will not bond with the metal parts of the pen.   The resulting restored color can be hand  buffed to a sheen as you can see in the after picture below.  For an even higher gloss shine use Pensbury Manor SuperShine Pen Potion No.10 shown below.  PMHBRPPNo9 comes in 1 and 2 oz bottles – enough to restore from 15 to 40 pens or more.

Unsolicited Testimonials

“The black is totally uniform and  the former line between faded and unfaded BHR is essentially undetectable. It stood up to a great deal of hand-buffing and took a nice shine, and the  buffing didn’t appear to remove any dye whatever”          (E.V.)

“Syd, I tried your BHR , blackener, on my bleached out Black Hard Rubber items …It works great with just one application”    ( T.S.)

“Good stuff, Syd. I used it and with one application it restored the original looking color. Buffed up the next day; like new . It was easy. I Would recommend to anybody.“          (D.L.)
